Labels for bad designers

• Do you know any web designer who uses 8px gray fonts on white background?
• Anyone who still designs with spacer.gif?
• Do you still detect font tags?

I know we all do. If you ‘re wondering what to do with such bad designers, there is a solution actually.

This April fool’s day WaSP introduced some awesome labels to help us cope with bad designs. You could stick them on a laptop. Yet I’ m wondering on which side of the screen.

I don’t buy the joke, I can’t see a joke. I could use these labels everyday. It would be even better if we could stick the labels on websites. (This must be an outstanding idea. I need to copy-write it.)

So, go download the .pdf file with all the stickers (100KB) and save the world.

The mental model of a cat

For those who live with a cat (or more than one cat) it is important to understand the behavior of their animal. It is true that by time people start learning things about their cat but is hardly enough.

Did you hear the news? Cats tend to change the way they think and act in order to fit their environment. (I ‘m thinking twice about this and I ‘m not really sure but it’s OK.)

For those who want to adopt a cat or be adopted by one or they are just curious here it is the mental model of cats which explains almost everything.

Waiting for Leopard

There is no question about that, I will definitely upgrade to Leopard. Apple has convinced me everything will go just fine.

Of course this is just what I want believe. I think it will take me a backup, patience and some attention to the details. I don’t even want to remember the Windows ages when I ‘d have to upgrade the drivers, the antivirus etc.

The price won’t be a matter. As Jobs said:

Leopard will cost $129 just like our previous operating systems. The Basic edition will cost $129, the Premium edition $129, the Business edition $129, the Enterprize edition $129 and the Ultimate edition $129.

He he… does it remind you anyone?

Become a Simpson

As I kid when I got anwered what I wanted to be when I ‘d grow up I didn’t know what to say. It was an awkward moment for all of us. Until a voice raised which said “Let him be a child. He has all the time in the world to decide”. Each time someone said that all of us were relieved.

It is some time now that I have decided what I want to be when I grow up. I want to be another Homer Simpson. Don’t look down on him. Homer is man who has his own decent beliefs, he is handsome and dreams a better future for himself and his family.

Until the time I become a real Homer I can live with a substitude: Simpsonize me. OK, the result isn’t exactly realistic but it worth the effort.

(Don’t) steal this design dude!

I don’t like very much the design of my blog. Who cares? Maybe I do. So I visit and re-visit my favourite blog design ever: Ladies and gentlemen here comes the brilliant Jason Santa Maria.

It is so very very stylish, I envy him. I love the colors and and the typography. I find it very readable. To navigate in it is a piece of cake. And it passes the validation tests.

There is a tiny devil inside my head who whispers: “Copy the design. Duplicate it. If you don’t you ‘ll be cursed with this design.” Then a tiny angel appears and shouts: “Don’t! Just don’t. If you do you ‘ll be cursed with a stolen design.”

Who is going to win? I don’ t know. However I think I will redesign this blog anyway. It will take me ages. Who cares?
